Henry W. Streeter founded Streeter Associates on June 13, 1949 with his brother Charles M. Streeter Sr.  Classy and well mannered, Henry set the tone for what would become one of the most well -respected family businesses in the region.

During the 1950’s Streeter Associates was led by the financial acumen of Charles M. Streeter, Sr. and the construction expertise of James A. “Big Jim” Norris, Sr.  It was at that time that we planted the seed for our future long term relationships with Arnot Ogden Medical Center, Hardinge Inc., Westinghouse and Cornell University.

In the 1960’s, a second generation Streeter and Norris joined the firm.  James A. Norris, Jr. and Charles Streeter, Jr. participated heavily in the growth of regional schools with buildings from Elmira City School District, Elmira College, Ithaca College, Ithaca City School District, Horseheads School District and Corning Community College.

In 1973, James A. Norris was promoted to president.  With his analytical mind and attention to detail, Jim helped Streeter become the first contractor in the area to act as a construction manager.  The first such project was the Elmira Psychiatric Center.  We also purchased the Mark Twain building and renovated it into apartments and retail/office space.During the 1970’s, Streeter completed the following projects: Elmira College Athletic Facility, Southport Towers, Keuka College Library and Physical Arts Building and the Steele Memorial Library.

Through the 1980’s Streeter Associates continued serving the construction needs of the region as we proudly participated in the expansions of the Bath VA Hospital, Toshiba Display Devices, Hardinge Inc., Corning Inc., Taylor Packing Company, Arnot Mall, Rockwell Museum, and Arnot Art Museum.  It was also during the 1980’s when we solidified our reputation in the health care field, building skilled nursing facilities for the Reconstruction Home, Schuyler Memorial Hospital, and Ira Davenport Hospital.  Charles M. Streeter Jr., second in the lineage of Streeters, became president in 1987 and with his doctrine of “management with integrity,” we expanded our customer base and geographic reach.

Over the years the Streeter Offices were renovated and expanded to accommodate present and future growth of the company.  The 1990’s were no exception as Charlies’s son Jeff joined the company to carry the “Streeter Spirit” into the new millennium.  Streeter continued their relationship with valued customers such as the Arnot Ogden Medical Center, Elmira College, Cornell University and Corning Incorporated while forging new relationships with companies like Adelphia Cable and Orthstar Enterprises to build new corporate headquarters.

2001 Jeff Streeter was promoted to President of the company.  During the first part of the 2000’s, Streeter Associates has continued to nurture their longstanding relationships with major expansions for the Arnot Ogden Medical Center, major Renovations for the Elmira College Library and multiple projects for Cornell University and Corning Incorporated.  Streeter has continued to expand their customer base with projects like the Oswego Hospital Renewal project, a major renovation with multiple additions.

Streeter plans to continue the slow and steady growth of the company well into the 21st Century, focusing, as they always have, on good customer relations that result in repeat business.
